Mid-State Farmers Mutual Insurance Company has been insuring homes and farms in Indiana since 1878. Originally named Farmers Mutual Fire Insurance Association of Allen County, the company's name was changed to Mid-State Farmers Mutual in the 1980s. Since its beginning, Mid-State Farmers Mutual has worked with policyholders to customize its coverages to meet their specific needs.

Mid-State Farmers Mutual is an insurance company deeply rooted in Indiana’s history. Our company has always valued superior products and service. We began as a small mutual association of farmers who were unable to obtain insurance from the larger insurance carriers of the day. 

The company relocated from E. Main St in Fort Wayne to our current office in New Haven in 2001. In 1988, Farmers Mutual of Jay County in Portland, merged into Mid-State Mutual. Offices were initially maintained in both Fort Wayne and Portland until they were consolidated into the New Haven location. 

As the years passed, the company continued to grow with very little change in philosophy. Products were added and the bylaws were revised several times to keep up with policyholder needs. Management has always kept sight of the fact that the company is a mutual company, owned by the policyholders, with each having the right to attend policyholder meetings and vote on proposed changes.

In 2024, Mid-State Mutual signed an affiliation agreement with Wayne Mutual Insurance Company in Wooster, Ohio. This agreement authorized the existing Wayne Mutual board of directors and company officers to lead both companies.  As a result, the companies are now working closely together, but continue to operate as separate entities.  As the newest member of Wayne Insurance Group, Mid-State Farmers Mutual is leading Wayne’s expansion into Indiana. This affiliation offers opportunities to provide policyholders of both companies with a broader range of insurance products and services to meet their individual needs.

Through these changes, Mid-State Farmers Mutual has remained committed to providing dependable protection, seeking creative solutions and establishing synergetic relationships. As a mutual company, we exist solely to serve the insurance needs of our policyholders.
